Role Overview:

The Mental Health Practitioners initiative was launched by the Minister for Education to enhance mental health and wellbeing support in government schools. This role is part of that initiative, aiming to provide a qualified mental health professional in all government secondary school campuses and specialist settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to whole-school health and wellbeing plans, building teaching staff and school leadership capacity to address student mental health and wellbeing, and develop and deliver appropriate programs and strategies according to specified school priorities
  • Provide early intervention services (including short-term counselling) for individual students and groups identified as at-risk and/or experiencing mild to moderate mental health concerns;
  • Coordinate supports for students with complex needs both within and external to the school, including proactively engaging local mental health service providers and other health professionals as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualified psychologist, social worker, or mental health nurse with relevant registration requirements under the National Law, governing operations of the National Boards and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
