Job Description

This is a mid-senior level full-time role based in Sydney, Australia. As the technical and people leader for our Data Engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the strategic direction of our data platform.

Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and operation of efficient and scalable data pipelines to collect, process, and store large volumes of data from diverse sources including SQL databases, APIs, and streaming services.
  • Define and own the strategic roadmap for our data platform (BigQuery, Airflow, dbt, Dataflow), ensuring scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness against agreed KPIs (availability, accuracy, latency, spend).
  • Implement best-practice software engineering (CI/CD, IaC, code reviews, testing, observability) to drive high quality and sustainable delivery across the team.
  • Establish robust data governance, security and privacy frameworks to meet regulatory and internal compliance standards.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in leading or managing a data engineering team in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. They will also have hands-on experience with cloud data warehouses and data orchestration tools, as well as expertise in SQL and coding skills in Python.
