Job Description

The Federal Court of Australia seeks an experienced Communications Director to lead its Media and External Affairs team. As a key advisor to the Chief Justice, CEO/PR, and executive management, you will develop and implement strategic frameworks for external communications and media engagement activities.

This role requires at least 10 years' experience in senior management delivering strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and media management. You must have qualifications in public relations, marketing communication, journalism, or relevant fields.

We are looking for someone with excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to research, write, and edit materials for publication. You should be able to communicate effectively with judges, staff, external organisations, government agencies, and stakeholder groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategic frameworks for external communications and media engagement activities.
  • Provide specialist strategic media and communications guidance on managing reactive and planned media and external affairs issues.
  • Manage risks to the Courts by providing professional and sound judgment, consulting with the head of jurisdiction and CEO/PR.
Requirements
  • At least 10 years' experience as a senior manager in strategic communications, stakeholder engagement, and media management.
  • Qualifications in public relations, marketing communication, journalism, or relevant fields.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to research, write, and edit materials for publication.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with judges, staff, external organisations, government agencies, and stakeholder groups.

  1. Well-developed management and organisational skills, including managing multiple projects, evaluating information, and monitoring work-flows and standards.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and accept responsibility associated with decision-making.
  3. Demonstrated ability to develop, coordinate, and implement complex media communication strategies and initiatives.
  4. Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and liaison skills, including developing and maintaining productive working relationships with key stakeholders.
