About the Role
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Engage with new clients, providing clear descriptions of the patenting process, cost estimates, and advice on retainer agreements. Take instructions from clients, conduct conflict checks, and provide written or verbal advice as required.
  • Preparing Patent Applications:
    • Draft patent specifications, descriptions, and claims for review by senior experts.
  • Prosecuting Patent Applications to Grant:
    • Clearly articulate to clients the requirements and processes for obtaining patent grant, explaining objections raised by patent offices and providing advice and recommendations for overcoming said objections.
    • Amend patent documents and/or prepare arguments to progress a patent application through to grant, having regard to the client's commercial and strategic needs.
  • Advice and Opinions:
    • Provide advice on freedom-to-operate, infringement, or validity, opinions on patentability issues. In complex matters, this work would be supervised.
  • Client Relationship Management:
    • Establish good rapport with clients by responding professionally and promptly to queries and requests. Take every opportunity to grow your understanding of the client's business and commercial goals.
  • Financial and Practice Management:
    • Accurately record all billable and non-billable time and manage work in progress (WIP). Maintain a good understanding of your progress against financial targets and actively communicate workload and capacity to supervisors and other senior members of the team.
  • Marketing and Business Development:
    • Contribute to marketing and business development activities, such as writing articles for websites and attending industry events.
  • Self-Development:
    • Take ownership of your professional and personal development.
