Job Description

We are seeking a Defence Systems Portfolio Manager to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical Defence programs.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of systems that contribute to understanding and managing the space domain, ensuring capabilities remain available, reliable, and meet Australia's space security objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing sustainment strategies – Planning maintenance, upgrades, and obsolescence management while integrating with Defence asset frameworks.
  • Overseeing programs and contracts – Managing sustainment services, monitoring budgets, ensuring compliance, and governing complex technical contracts, including international agreements.
  • Maintaining stakeholder relationships – Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, international allies, and industry partners in space domain awareness and control.
  • Ensuring technical integrity and resource management – Supporting system calibration, documentation, configuration control, and overseeing logistics for specialized components and secure data pathways.
  • Managing risks and monitoring performance – Assessing and mitigating sustainment risks while tracking and reporting on operational effectiveness.

Required Skills & Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience – A degree in engineering, IT, physics, business, or project management, with experience in Defence, sustainment, logistics, or complex technical systems.
  • Project and contract management skills – Skilled in managing technical projects, Defence contracts (ASDEFCON), and sustainment programs, ideally with certifications like PRINCE2 or PMP.
  • Resource and risk management expertise – Expertise in logistics, supply chain management, asset lifecycle planning, and assessing risks in interconnected systems.
  • Stakeholder engagement ability – Ability to collaborate with Defence personnel, technical experts, industry partners, and international allies.
  • Strong communication skills – Capable of conveying complex technical and program information clearly to diverse audiences.
