Lead HR Strategist: Northern Australia

This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned Human Resources leader to take on a key role in shaping the HR function across a major Northern Australian employer. As a Lead HR Strategist, you will be responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of the HR function, guiding and developing a team of HR professionals, and partnering closely with senior leadership and operational staff to ensure HR outcomes align with business needs.

About the Job:

The successful candidate will have a strong background in HR, with experience in leading teams and implementing people strategies that drive organisational success. They will also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present detailed reports and strategic analysis at Board level. The ideal candidate will be a practical, people-centred, and resilient leader who can balance strategy and hands-on delivery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Strategic Leadership: Provide strategic direction and oversight of the HR function, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
  • Team Development: Guide and develop a team of HR professionals, providing coaching and support to build capability and accountability.
  • Partnership Working: Partner closely with senior leadership and operational staff to ensure HR outcomes align with business needs.
  • Industrial Relations: Manage enterprise bargaining agreement negotiations and foster positive union relationships.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with workplace legislation, industrial relations frameworks, and safety standards.
  • HR Systems: Oversee recruitment, retention, professional development, and talent management strategies.
Requirements:
  • Diploma, degree, or MBA in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, or a related discipline.
  • 5-10 years' HR experience, ideally with leadership exposure.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial relations, EBAs, and union engagement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong reporting and board presentation skills.
  • Practical, people-centred, and resilient leader with the ability to balance strategy and hands-on delivery.
