Biomolecular Dynamics of Potassium Ion Channels
This role offers an opportunity to investigate the fundamental mechanisms of potassium ion channel function and modulation. Advanced molecular dynamics methods will be employed to describe conduction, inactivation, and modulation mechanisms.
The systems being studied include BK (Big-conductance K), MthK, and KcsA potassium channels. The goal is to improve our understanding of how these proteins respond to physiological and/or pharmacological stimuli to control electrical signaling in the body.
Requirements for Success- A PhD in physics, physical chemistry, or a related discipline.
- A background in computation in biophysics, condensed matter physics, or physical chemistry.
- Experience in atomistic simulations of membrane protein systems, with a strong preference for those with experience in simulations of ion channels, particularly potassium channels.
- Proficiency in statistical mechanical theory and molecular dynamics simulations for biophysical problems using packages like NAMD/VMD and Charmm.
- Expertise in supercomputing using CPUs and GPUs, programming/scripting in a Unix environment, MD scripting for advanced simulations and analysis, as well as good visualization skills.
