Cultural Fire Officer Role

The Cultural Fire Officer plays a key role in delivering high-quality functions and projects related to Traditional Owner aspirations for Cultural fire on Country.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serves as an interface between Forest Fire Management Victoria and Traditional Owners to ensure effective relationship management.
  • Supports the coordination of Cultural burn development and planning, ensuring alignment with Traditional Owner aspirations.
  • Contributes to regional partnerships and fosters a high-performing culture within the team.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Appropriate qualification in science, natural resource management, or equivalent experience is desirable but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of land and fire management in Victoria, including working knowledge of fire planning processes.
  • A sound knowledge of Victorian Traditional Owner groups and the Victorian Traditional Owner Cultural Fire Strategy.
  • Proven experience in working effectively with Aboriginal people and communicating sensitively on cultural safety matters.
