Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Specialist to join our team at the Queensland Police Service. As a Legal Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing specialist legal advice and representation to the organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Specialist Legal Advice: You will provide written and verbal advice on complex legal issues related to the investigation of major and organized crime.
  • Represent the QPS in Court Proceedings: You will represent the Queensland Police Service in court proceedings, including applications for covert warrants.
  • Assist Investigators and Officers: You will provide assistance to investigators and officers in relation to the investigation of major and organized criminal activity.
  • Compile Reports and Provide Recommendations: You will compile reports and provide recommendations concerning the progress of investigations into major and organized crime.
  • Liaise with Relevant Bodies: You will liaise with relevant outside bodies, including the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and government agencies.
Requirements
  • Qualifications: You must possess a degree in law from a recognized tertiary institution, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Admission to the Bar: You must be admitted, or eligible for immediate admission, as a barrister or solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and enrolled, or eligible for enrollment, to practice in the Federal and High Courts of Australia.
  • Security Clearance: You must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance to the minimal level of Negative Vetting Level 1.
Working Conditions

You will be required to perform duties in locations as directed by the Legal Division. You may be exposed to material of a graphic and sensitive nature during the course of your duties.
