General Practitioner Role Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for providing primary medical care to patients in a civilian setting. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to achieve and maintain the health and wellbeing of Defence members.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Deliver primary medical care to patients in accordance with professional standards, legislation, and Defence Policies and Procedures.
  2. Form part of a multidisciplinary team working towards shared goals.
  3. Assess Defence personnel for fitness for duty and provide care that supports their health and wellbeing.
  4. Provide medical technical advice to Joint Health Unit (JHU) Commanding Officer (CO), Joint Health Command (JHC) Health Centre Manager, and Commanders of units.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner, General in Australia with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) or Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Vocational Registration.
  • Minimum 2 years full-time postgraduate general practitioner experience in a general practice setting within the last 5 years (or part-time equivalent).
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA.

This role requires an Australian Citizen to obtain the required Baseline Security Clearance. It also does not require enlistment in the Defence Force.
