About the Role

Maincode is building cutting-edge sovereign AI models from scratch. Our team is responsible for designing and implementing foundation models that are tailored to Australian needs.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a pioneering project in the field of AI. As a key member of our team, you will work closely with researchers and engineers to develop and deploy large-scale AI systems that are powered by GPU clusters.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Design and build training pipelines for sovereign foundation models
  • Develop efficient inference systems that can run these models in real-world environments
  • Optimize data pipelines, tokenization, batch prep, and distributed training at multi-node scale
  • Establish strong observability practices to improve performance, correctness, and efficiency across the full lifecycle of foundation models
  • Collaborate with researchers to translate cutting-edge algorithms into working systems
The Ideal Candidate
  • Possesses a deep understanding of how AI models are built, trained, and run, especially large-scale foundation models
  • Is driven by curiosity about model internals, training dynamics, and system-level performance
  • Has experience with Python and ML frameworks like PyTorch or JAX, and familiarity with distributed compute is a plus
  • Is passionate about learning, whether it's reading open-source repos, replicating research ideas, or designing tools to explore problems
