About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Health and Safety professional to lead our team in maintaining mine safety management system compliance and driving continuous improvement in safety performance.

Your focus will be on mentoring and supporting the safety team, providing strategic and operational advice to the H&S Manager, and implementing the H&S management strategy.

You will conduct trend analysis, identify areas for improvement, and participate in special projects to drive value-added initiatives.

As a key member of our team, you will also coordinate the implementation of Regional and Global HS initiatives and projects, and contribute to the development of localised Fatal and Serious Injury Prevention initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support the safety team through coaching, training facilitation, and career development planning.
  • Provide strategic and operational advice to the H&S Manager to ensure that training and development is suitable for the operation and associated risks.
  • Support the H&S Manager as required, including tracking and facilitation of Statutory Reporting, liaising with Corporate and Regulatory officials.
  • Implement the H&S management strategy, mine safety management system framework, and H&S risk reduction programs.
  • Conduct trend analysis and interrogate governance systems to identify areas for improvement and initiate special projects.
  • Participate in and/or lead H&S critical functions for Wagerup and Bunbury Port, including risk management, auditing, change management, and major incident investigations.
  • Coordinate the implementation of Regional and Global HS initiatives and projects.
  • Identify and initiate localised Fatal and Serious Injury Prevention initiatives and influence leaders to reduce risk and share best practice.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Tertiary qualifications in H&S or related fields.
  • Strong Health & Safety related experience, ideally in a heavy industry or industrial environment.
  • Knowledge and application of legislative standards to ensure Alcoa's compliance to WHS requirements.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, enabling you to lead people in the continuous improvement of health and safety systems, and performance.
