African Youth AOD Outreach Clinician

Job Description

The African Youth AOD Outreach Clinician is a crucial role in building welcoming communities and improving outcomes for young people of African heritage in Victoria.

This position is part of a 12-month Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) education and outreach project, funded by the Victorian African Communities Action Plan.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide AOD counselling and case management support to young people aged 12-25 years old within Epping and surrounding Local Government Areas.
  • Reduce AOD-related harms and change harmful behaviours.
  • Identify and address barriers to recovery.
  • Increase capacity to effectively manage difficulties associated with problematic AOD use.
  • Develop skills to prevent relapse.
  • Increase health and wellbeing, social connectedness, and positive behaviour change.

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Assertive Youth Outreach approaches experience.
  • Ability to engage with young African persons to form trust and working relationships.
  • Capacity to provide practical assistance and support to young people and their families.

Working Arrangements:

The Youth AOD Outreach Clinician will work independently but be well connected to the youth and family services team, youth AOD outreach workers in their catchment, and other youth-focused services.
