Health Education Team Manager Job Overview

This is a unique opportunity to lead in a pioneering harm reduction service. As the Health Education Team Manager, you will be responsible for guiding a diverse team of Health Education Officers (HEOs) to deliver high-quality support to individuals who inject drugs.

The role involves leading and mentoring HEOs to ensure they have the necessary skills and resources to provide excellent support. You will foster a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.

You will work closely with the senior leadership team to translate strategy into action, including planning, reporting, and continuous improvement. This will involve providing frontline leadership by modeling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.

You will also be responsible for delivering training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across the service. Additionally, you will oversee staffing within allocated budgets and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of HEOs to ensure they have the skills and resources to deliver excellent support.
  • Foster a workplace culture that is inclusive, respectful, and grounded in harm reduction principles.
  • Work with the senior leadership team to translate strategy into action, including planning, budgeting, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide frontline leadership by modeling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including drug overdose management in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Deliver training and education in harm reduction practice, supporting capability-building across the service.
  • Oversee staffing within allocated budgets and in accordance with relevant industrial agreements and policies.
  • Lead health promotion and project initiatives, and strengthen engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
  • Contribute to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.

About You:

  • Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staffing, budgets, WHS, and compliance in a complex service environment.
  • Experience in responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or assisting with medical emergencies, such as overdose.
  • Excellent communication, training, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.
