Job Overview

The Medically Supervised Injecting Centre in Kings Cross is a pioneering harm reduction service. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to reducing overdose deaths and promoting the well-being of individuals who inject drugs.

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead by example, fostering a workplace culture that prioritizes harm reduction principles and inclusivity.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of Health Education Officers, empowering them to deliver high-quality support.
  • Cultivate a workplace environment grounded in empathy and respect.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement strategies for service improvement.
  • Provide front-line leadership, modelling best-practice responses to consumer presentations, including overdose management.
  • Develop and deliver training programs in harm reduction practice, enhancing capability-building across the service.
  • Oversee staffing within allocated budgets and according to relevant industrial agreements and policies.
  • Drive health promotion initiatives, strengthening engagement with First Nations peoples in service design and delivery.
  • Contribute to policy development, service evaluation, report writing, grant applications, and published articles.
  • BUILD EFFECTIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH STAKEHOLDERS TO ENHANCE OUTCOMES FOR SERVICE USERS AND THE COMMUNITY.
About You
  • Proven experience leading teams in health, community services, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of harm reduction approaches and the issues impacting people who inject drugs.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex service environments, including staffing, WHS, and compliance.
  • Experience responding to and managing behaviour escalations and/or medical emergencies, such as overdose.
  • Excellent communication, training, and facilitation skills, with the ability to inspire and empower staff.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advocate for positive outcomes for vulnerable communities.
