Vegetation Management Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Vegetation Management Coordinator to join our team at the Country Fire Authority (CFA). As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in reducing the risk and severity of bushfires through fuel management and building capacity of volunteers and staff in understanding the use of fire in fire prevention and improving knowledge of fire behavior for safe and effective suppression.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expert vegetation management advice to ensure all stakeholders are making appropriate decisions and carrying out responsibilities with accurate information.
- Provide initiative, expertise, and leadership in the implementation of programs and the development of policy at Regional, District, and Brigade levels based on high-quality research, analysis, and assessment of information to inform program planning and delivery.
- Represent CFA at appropriate forums as the subject matter expert to ensure outcomes reflect the position of CFA with respect to vegetation management.
To succeed in this key role, you will ideally be tertiary qualified in Science, Natural Resource Management, Emergency Management, or a related discipline and/or hold extensive experience in project management/program implementation for bushfire mitigation, fuel management, land management, or another relevant field.
You will have demonstrated skills and experience in fuel management - preferably including the planning and implementation of complex planned burning operations as well as proven skills in program management and the ability to research, analyze, and report on information to inform program planning and delivery. You will also possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders and represent CFA at external forums.
