Program Overview

The Multicultural Child and Family (MCFP) Program provides a range of services to assist children and young people who have been found to be in need of care and protection to meet their permanent care plan needs - safety, stability and wellbeing through a culturally aware and responsive lens.

The Program uses a client centred, strengths-based, trauma informed framework to guide its service delivery and facilitate sustainable and practical outcomes for children, young people, families and carers; working in partnership with member agencies and local ethnic and sector partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Target and assess foster carers according to the NSW Child Safe Standards which includes producing comprehensive assessment reports using analytical skills to inform recommendations in a timely manner.
  • Work as a part of a team in a flexible and agile way to meet the needs of carers and children within the Permanency Support Program.
  • Work closely with Community Partners including Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) and respond to referrals from DCJ.
  • Assist with coordinating the recruitment, training, and assessment of Multicultural Foster Carers.
  • Review carer's authorisation and complete comprehensive carer review reports including completing carer development plans with carers encompassing training needs.
  • Participate in conducting training for foster carers whilst adhering to SSI Policy and Procedures.
  • Provide carer support to foster carers including supporting with onboarding and retaining carers to the organisation, particularly kinship carers that represent the cultures of children entering care.
  • Collaborate and partake on the development and implementation of community engagement strategies to promote culturally responsive foster care in selected areas and communities.
  • Promote foster care with the organisation and increase interest and enquiries from suitable applicants wanting to pursue culturally responsive kinship and foster care.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary Education in Social Work or relevant qualifications and/or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children, young people and families.
  • Understanding of and experience in the field of casework, training, PSP, child protection and Foster Care.
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills.
  • Previous experience working with culturally & linguistically diverse communities.
  • NSW driver's licence.
