Data Center Migration Architect

This is a complex and challenging position that requires an experienced Infrastructure Architect to lead the migration of applications to a new infrastructure platform. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data center migrations, particularly in large-scale and complex environments.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Migration Planning: Collaborate with domain representatives to prioritize and assess applications for migration and group them accordingly.
  • Current State Assessment: Assess and document the current state of applications, including server configuration, storage, integration points, criticality, user access, and more.
  • Target State Design: Create and update current state artifacts, including logical and physical architecture diagrams, if they do not exist.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with application teams to close gaps in the current state documentation and implementation.
  • Migration Strategies: Collaborate with teams responsible for commodity compute, enterprise compute, storage, and network to define migration approaches and refine strategies.
  • Integration and Shared Services: Provide input on migration strategies for integration and shared services.
  • Architecture Development: Design and develop target state architecture for on-premise deployments, particularly for perimeter and complex applications.
  • Architecture Review: Socialize target state architecture with application teams, solution design peers, security teams, and review boards to ensure alignment.
  • Approvals and Escalations: Work closely with internal architecture and security teams to obtain necessary approvals (IAF, SDG) for perimeter and/or complex applications.
  • Technical Leadership: Assume the technical lead role in subsequent build and migration activities, providing guidance and escalating issues where necessary.
Requirements:
  • Data Center Migration Experience: Proven experience in Data Center migrations, particularly in large-scale and complex environments.
  • Infrastructure Architecture Expertise: Expertise in infrastructure architecture and design, with a focus on on-premise deployment strategies for complex applications.
  • Logical and Physical Architecture Diagrams: Hands-on experience creating logical and physical architecture diagrams.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong collaboration skills, with the ability to work with cross-functional teams (application, network, storage, compute, security, etc.).
  • Documentation: Experience in creating and updating current state documentation for migration activities.
  • Server, Storage, Integration, and Network Components: Solid understanding of server, storage, integration, and network components as they relate to application migrations.
  • Migration Activities: Experience in leading and managing migration activities, including troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Security Protocols and Frameworks: Strong knowledge of security protocols and frameworks related to data center migration activities.
  • Cloud Migration: Experience with cloud migration (AWS, Azure, etc.) is a plus.
  • Certifications: Certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF, etc.) are a bonus.
