Are you a leader who thrives in the digital space? We are seeking an Assistant Technical Director to join our Data Science and Engineering Team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing technical teams, preferably within a public sector environment. They will work closely with stakeholders, mentor team members as required, and assure product quality through peer review.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Translating complex business problems into data problems
  • Providing quality assurance and feedback on data products
  • Engaging with stakeholders and ensuring established quality assurance processes are followed
  • Contributing to continuous development through peer-learning and peer-coaching
  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and standards

The ideal candidate will have a high level of technical excellence, be self-driven and work well with others to deliver data and analytic products.

As part of this leadership cohort, you will have the opportunity to shape the direction of our team and contribute to the delivery of cutting-edge analytics solutions.

**Requirements**

We are looking for someone with:

  • Demonstrated experience reviewing code and enforcing quality patterns
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in mathematics, computer science or science
  • Comparable industry experience

**Desirable skills include:**

  • Experience managing technical teams, preferably within a public sector environment
  • Azure DevOps for managing code and for continuous integration
  • Data engineering experience, particularly SQL and/or Power BI
  • Data science experience, particularly in R, Python or Spark
  • An understanding of Australia's biosecurity or export systems
