Lead Electrical Designer


As a senior electrical engineer at your company, you will play a key role in leading and overseeing the design of medium voltage designs for data centre projects. This is a senior role that involves carrying out detailed design, assuming the role of design leader where required, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, and providing positive contributions to design/project meetings.

The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of MV systems and relevant Australian Standards, consulting experience, and familiarity with electrical proprietary software such as ETAP, Vipcodia, Power Cad, etc. They will also be committed to quality, improvement, and HDR values.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Group Leader with monitoring engineering/CAD resource requirements for each project within your control.
  • Detailed design (MV systems)
  • Lead and deliver the concept and detailed design of MV substation primary systems
  • Primary systems design - produce SLDs, HV substation layouts, equipment/materials lists, clearance checks, and short circuit force calculations
  • Carry out engineering concept design to detailed design, tender and contract on-site supervision, to completion, ensuring projects are undertaken in accordance with design briefs and that completion deadlines are achieved.
  • Liaise with the design team to produce coordinated designs that are technically compliant, to a consistent quality and standard.
  • Maintain regular 'in house' design reviews and checks.
  • Monitor and control project progress, design variations and project financial budgets.
  • Monitor contract staff or third-party appointments.
  • Maintain excellent client and design team relationships to achieve high levels of satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Pursue new business opportunities where appropriate with existing and new clients.
  • Assist Group Leader with identifying and implementing your personal training/CPD requirements.
  • Participate in Site Works as required.
  • Develop and maintain good relations with the various industry networks, clients, government agencies, sub-consultants and construction contractors relevant to the MEP team's activities.
  • Assist and co-ordinate design activities, processes and other technical standards within the MEP and CSA services.
  • Undertake technical reviews of the project at appropriate stages to ensure that the project approach and deliverables are achieved.

The ideal candidate should possess excellent problem-solving skills, effective communication skills, and the ability to work well under pressure.
