Job Description

The General Manager is responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of Tarrengower Prison, with a focus on rehabilitation and community reintegration. This involves leading and managing a diverse team to deliver correctional services that meet the needs of prisoners and support their successful transition back into the community.

About the Role

The General Manager will work closely with the Assistant Commissioner, Custodial Operations, to develop and implement strategies to improve prison operations, reduce recidivism rates, and enhance public safety. This will involve fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the prison's various departments and teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the delivery of correctional services, including prisoner management, staff supervision, and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to improve prison operations, reduce recidivism rates, and enhance public safety.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners, to build partnerships and secure funding opportunities.
  • Manage budgets, allocate resources, and ensure effective use of personnel and facilities.
  • Oversee the implementation of reforms and initiatives aimed at improving prison operations, reducing recidivism rates, and enhancing public safety.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Extensive leadership experience, preferably in a corrections or related field.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans, manage budgets, and allocate resources effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and industry partners.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, with a strong focus on achieving shared goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of Corrections Victoria's policies, procedures, and standards, with a commitment to upholding these principles in all aspects of your work.
