">About the Role:

The National Professional Practice Governance Lead – Perioperative plays a critical role in shaping the capability, safety, and strategic direction of perioperative services across the nation.

This position is responsible for leading excellence in clinical governance, professional standards, and operational best practice across all perioperative departments.

The role ensures that perioperative teams are staffed with skilled professionals and operate within a framework that is forward-looking, responsive to evolving healthcare trends, and committed to delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-centred care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead excellence in clinical governance, professional standards, and operational best practice across all perioperative departments
  • Ensure perioperative teams are staffed with skilled professionals and operate within a forward-looking framework responsive to evolving healthcare trends
  • Deliver safe, high-quality, and patient-centred perioperative care
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to shape capability and strategic direction of perioperative services
Requirements:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Recent experience as a Floor Coordinator, Nurse Unit Manager (NUM), POSM or Theatre Educator, within a facility with more than 5 years' experience overall
  • Experience in overseeing and managing a range of specialties within the Perioperative department
  • A strong working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks
  • Advanced clinical expertise and skills, with extended practice informed by evidence-based methodologies
  • A proven record of professional leadership, effective team contribution, mentorship, and adept problem-solving abilities
  • High-level communication, liaison, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Evidence of understanding patient safety and clinical quality factors that impact care
  • Capability to lead and operate both independently and collaboratively within team-based consultative roles, upholding clinical excellence and professionalism
