Transformative Leadership Role in Diversity and Inclusion

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director of Diversity & Inclusion at the University of New South Wales. This is a transformative leadership role that will play a crucial part in shaping our university's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.

About the Role

The Director of Diversity & Inclusion will lead strategic initiatives aimed at fostering an inclusive and respectful environment where all students and staff feel valued, respected, and empowered to be their authentic selves. This involves designing, developing, and implementing university-wide programs that promote diversity across multiple areas, including gender equity, disability inclusion and accessibility, campus and workplace culture, LGBTQIA+ recognition and support, cultural diversity and anti-racism, and workplace flexibility.

This role requires collaboration with internal stakeholders, including senior leaders, Deans, Heads of Schools, Executive Directors, and professional staff managers, with a particular focus on close partnerships with Human Resources and student departments focused on student services. External engagement will involve liaising with government organizations such as the Workplace Gender Equality Agency, other accreditation bodies, and peer universities.

The Director will report to the Pro Vice-Chancellor Societal Transformation and Equity and manage a team of three direct reports. Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing expert leadership and subject matter expertise across all aspects of diversity and inclusion, contributing to the development of strategies, policies, and programs to enable the University to achieve its strategic diversity and inclusion goals and priorities for staff and students.
  • Developing and managing University-wide diversity and inclusion programs and initiatives, working with faculty and division EDI committees and student-facing business units to support implementation at a local level.
  • Collaborating with the Chief People Officer to develop, communicate, coordinate, and implement a range of workplace diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • Leading the development of appropriate inclusion training/and or awareness programs/campaigns for staff and students to educate teams about diversity issues and illustrate ways to increase and encourage inclusion within the University.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional who holds postgraduate qualifications and/or extensive work experience in managing concurrent complex projects, preferably in equity, diversity & inclusion. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to influence and maintain positive and lasting relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strategic insights with operational expertise in designing, implementing, and improving diversity and inclusion programs that support all employees and students.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000 per annum, depending on experience. The University offers a comprehensive remuneration package, including flexible working options, additional leave during the festive period, career development opportunities, up to 50% discount on UNSW courses, flexible superannuation contributions, and various discounts and entitlements.
