Job Overview:

The Deputy Chief Legal Officer will play a critical role in managing the day-to-day operations of the Legal & Compliance team, providing expert legal advice, and driving strategic initiatives across the university.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Manage the University's legal and compliance function, ensuring effective delivery of services and adherence to regulations.
  2. Provide primary legal advice to key strategic areas, including Life Long Learning and Transnational Education initiatives.
  3. Communicate legal risks effectively to leaders, enabling informed decision-making within the university's risk appetite.
  4. Oversee external legal services, ensuring alignment with NSW Government Legal Services Panel rules and budget.
  5. Collaborate with the Chief Assurance & Legal Officer to drive management of legal, compliance, and policy programs.

Requirements:

  • 15+ years' experience as a lawyer, with a strong background in commercial/corporate law.
  • Admission to the Supreme Court of NSW and holding a current unrestricted practising certificate.
  • An experienced strategic thinker with strong analytical skills and ability to communicate risks and solutions effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of influencing senior stakeholders.
