Junior Environmental Sustainability Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Junior Environmental Sustainability Specialist. As a key member of the organization, you will be responsible for supporting sustainability initiatives and ensuring full compliance with SHER (Safety, Health, Environment & Risk) regulations.

Key responsibilities include adhering to Occupational Health & Safety Act, implementing risk control measures, developing environmental policies, and managing SHER systems and reporting.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant experience, a strong educational background in Environmental Management Sciences, and excellent knowledge of ISO 14001:2015, NEMA, OHSA, and other environmental standards.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Reporting, investigating, and addressing all incidents related to SHER, and disseminating lessons learned.
  • Ensuring all environmental authorizations, operating licenses, and permits are current and compliance is maintained.
  • Maintaining compliance with all applicable SHER legislation and standards.
  • Monitoring SHER performance through data collection and reporting.
  • Ensuring legal appointments are in place as per legislation.
  • Developing and overseeing occupational health management and monitoring programs.
  • Managing site surveys, audits, and assessments related to SHER.
  • Promoting a safety and environmental culture through awareness, communication, and training initiatives.
  • Coordinating all SHER-related training programs.
  • Assessing and improving the site's sustainability performance, focusing on energy efficiency, resource recovery, waste reduction, and operational efficiencies.
  • Developing plans to prevent pollution, respond to emergencies, and ensure business continuity.
  • Ensuring adherence to system protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Reviewing SOPs for operational excellence and compliance.
  • Preparing audit reports, identifying non-conformities, and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitoring the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Maintaining positive relations with internal and external stakeholders, including contractors.
  • Collaborating on initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint, GHG emissions, and other environmental impacts.
  • Proposing SHER improvements, corrective actions, and resource requirements, along with implementation plans for NCRs.
