Job Summary

A Public Health Physician is sought to provide expert advice and support to the Public Health Unit.

About The Opportunity

This role involves collaborating with staff specialists and PHU team members to provide evidence-based clinical, public health, and program advice.

Responsibilities
  • Provide public health medicine expertise, clinical advice, and support to the Public Health Unit.
  • In collaboration with PHU staff specialists and the PHU team, provide evidence-based clinical, public health, and program advice to support health protection activities in environmental health, immunization, communicable disease control, and emergency preparedness.
  • Lead the implementation of these activities, including identifying, monitoring, and investigating significant public health risks and coordinating responses.
Requirements
  • Current medical practitioner registered, or eligible for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia, and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine (AFPHM) or other relevant specialist recognition as provided under the Health Insurance Act 1973.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public health medicine principles and ability to practice to a high standard with evidence-based practice.
  • Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management.
  • Experience in teaching/training at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, including supervision of junior medical staff.
  • Commitment to continuing self-education and development, including continuing medical education/CPD.
  • Ability to comply with service objectives, provide services to the local community, use resources effectively, and participate at an LHD level.
  • Willingness to participate in a public health on-call roster.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a multidisciplinary team.
