About The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity is available to join the Public Health Unit team at our Liverpool Office as an Environmental Health Officer. You will undertake a range of Environmental Health duties and activities in an expanding and developing part of Sydney.

What You'll Be Doing

Facilitate, implement and monitor environmental health tasks related to the Public Health Act 2010, Public Health Regulation 2022 and other legislation, and contribute to emergency management in the Local Health District.

Activities relate to legionella control, public swimming pools, skin penetration, the funeral industry, on-site wastewater management, general hygiene and emergency management. There may be some actions related to tobacco and e-cigarette control, and smoke-free environments.

The Environmental Health Officer (EHO) will primarily work across a range of environmental health issues including but not limited to the investigation of elevated blood lead notifications, private drinking water supplies & quality assurance program monitoring activities and to undertake e-cigarette & tobacco control compliance inspections (complying with relevant legislation, policies and operational business plans).

The EHO will support the Environmental Health team in responding to major issues and incidents as may occur from time to time. The officer may be required to undertake some activities outside normal business hours including participating in the after-hours on-call roster.

How To Apply

  • Degree in Applied Science (Environmental Health) or other environmental health/management qualifications deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • Experience in managing a range of Environmental Health issues, particularly health risk assessment and environmental management and knowledge of relevant public health legislation.
  • Knowledge of environmental health policy, public health and environmental legislation as it applies to health, and an interest in undertaking public health research.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, adapt to situations, respond to emergencies and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
