About Our School

We are a rapidly growing, friendly and safe educational institution with world-class facilities.

Our mission is to foster a positive learning environment, creating strong relationships between staff, parents and students. We believe that personal and collective integrity in our students will serve them well throughout their lives.

Our vision is to instil a sense of purpose and clear behavioural standards in our students, nurturing them with lifelong values.

The Role

The Workplace Health and Safety Advisor plays a pivotal role in promoting a safety-first culture across the school. This involves delivering expert advice and guidance on WHS matters, ensuring the safety and well-being of every student and team member.

You will focus on implementing practical and effective safety systems while working closely with our Executive team and HSRs to identify, address and resolve hazards and risks.

A proactive approach is essential, taking steps to resolve hazards in collaboration with the school.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing advice to management on all matters pertaining to accident prevention, hazard identification and control, health and safety promotion, environmental and risk issues affecting students, staff and contractors.
  • Conducting proactive risk assessments and inspections to identify hazards and unsafe or unsatisfactory workplace health and safety conditions and practices.
  • Developing, promoting and coordinating training on various health and safety topics to develop awareness and compliance with legislative and departmental health and safety.
  • Maintaining effective communication links with the Workplace Health and Safety Committee through regular reports and feedback on activities, including accident prevention, health and safety promotion, risk issues and emergency procedures.
  • Facilitating the school's Workplace Health and Safety network by:
    • Organising four Workplace Health and Safety Committee meetings per year.
    • Performing Secretariat duties for the Committee meetings.
    • Organising professional development opportunities within the meetings.
  • Providing advice and support on departmental Workplace Health, Safety and Wellbeing procedures, guidelines and other resources.
  • Carrying out and reporting on inspections to ensure safe work practices and environments are maintained, evaluating the use of safety equipment and chemicals and developing and implementing emergency procedures.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must be self-motivated with a genuine passion for promoting and fostering a safety-first culture.

A strong understanding of WHS legislation, particularly within an educational environment, and a proven ability to develop, implement and monitor safety systems is essential.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams, influence school behaviour and provide clear and practical guidance on WHS matters, are also required.
