Your Role

In this critical position, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting, adhering to internal and regulatory deadlines for both Australian and New Zealand markets.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Oversee the External Reporting Team to ensure tasks are prioritized and delivered within set deadlines.
  2. Provide technical support, including researching new accounting standards and regulatory changes, specifically APRA and RBNZ.
  3. Review and approve tasks completed by the team, including journals.
  4. Assist in reviewing quarterly and annual APRA and RBNZ returns, working closely with the external reporting team.
  5. Prepare Enterprise Risk Reports and Board Papers, ensuring meaningful commentary and accuracy.
  6. Deliver Board documents to the Company Secretary in accordance with meeting dates.
  7. Review annual financial statements and half-year accounts for New Zealand.
  8. Review and sign-off on Blackline reconciliations approved by the team.
  9. Oversee investment accounting and excess cash transfers to/from the investment portfolio, resolving any issues that may arise.
  10. Coordinate IFRS17 reporting with local, regional, and central teams, monitoring system feeds to Peoplesoft, Aptitude, and actuarial feeds.
  11. Manage the external audit process, ensuring the audit team receives requested information and completing the audit efficiently.
  12. Fulfill requests from external auditors as required.
  13. Coordinate annual capital plans, review output, and prepare narrative for meetings with the CFO and Regional office.
  14. Provide mentoring and training to the team as needed, including fortnightly one-on-ones, mid-year, and annual performance reviews for direct reports (3 Financial Accountants).
  15. Promote continuous improvement initiatives, utilizing Alteryx and other tools.
  16. Approve payments and transfers in various banking platforms and internal systems on a roster basis.
Your Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Accounting within an Insurance environment.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing a team.
  • Holds a CA or CPA qualification.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proven attention to detail.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • External reporting experience preferred.
  • Experience working in General Insurance preferred.
  • Knowledge of IFRS17 reporting highly desired.
