Insurance Reporting Manager

To excel in this role, you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reporting in accordance with internal and regulatory deadlines for both AU and NZ. This involves coordinating the External Reporting Team to prioritize tasks effectively and manage them within set deadlines.
Key responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the External Reporting Team's workload to ensure tasks are prioritized correctly and completed within specified timelines.
- Providing technical support, including researching new accounting standards and regulatory changes, particularly those related to APRA and RBNZ.
- Reviewing and approving tasks completed by the team, including journal entries.
- Collaborating with the External Reporting Team to review quarterly and annual APRA and RBNZ returns.
- Preparing quarterly Enterprise Risk Reports and Board Papers in accordance with meeting dates, ensuring that commentary is meaningful and accurate.
- Delivering Board documents to the Company Secretary in line with agenda requirements.
- Reviewing annual financial statements and half-year accounts for NZ.
- Reviewing and signing off Blackline reconciliations approved by the team.
- Overseeing investment accounting and transfers of excess cash to/from the investment portfolio, addressing any issues that may arise.
- Coordinating IFRS17 reporting with local, regional, and central teams, monitoring system feeds to Peoplesoft, Aptitude, and actuarial feeds.
- Managing the external audit process to ensure efficient completion, providing necessary information to the audit team as required.
- Fulfilling requests from external auditors as needed.
- Coordinating annual capital plans, reviewing output, and preparing narrative for meetings with the CFO and Regional office.
- Providing mentoring and training to team members as required, conducting fortnightly one-on-ones, mid-year, and annual performance reviews.
- Promoting continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging Alteryx and other tools.
- Approving payments and transfers in various banking platforms and internal systems on a roster basis.
- Handling ad-hoc internal and external requests as required.
This position requires:
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in accounting within an insurance environment.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing a team.
- Holding a CA or CPA qualification.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Proven oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Proven attention to detail.
- Effective time management skills.
- External reporting experience is preferred, as is experience working in General Insurance.
- Knowledge of IFRS17 reporting is highly desirable.
This role offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications, plus additional benefits and perks.
