Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Principal Policy and Legislation Officer to join our high-performing policy and legislation team in Queensland.

The successful candidate will lead or undertake complex policy and legislation work, conducting research and analysis, and developing options to solve problems relevant to responsible liquor and gaming practices and to help markets work fairly.

This role requires good stakeholder communication and negotiation skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure both autonomously and within a team to prepare quality written documentation.

While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, qualifications in law, public policy, or other degrees relevant to the role will be favourably regarded.

Practical experience in policy and/or legislation development is essential for fulfilling the key responsibilities of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis to develop options to solve problems relevant to responsible liquor and gaming practices and to help markets work fairly.
  • Lead or undertake complex policy and legislation work, including preparing quality written documentation such as cabinet submissions and discussion papers.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, industry representatives, and community groups.
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced staff, including mentoring and coaching.

Requirements:

  • Qualifications in law, public policy, or other degrees relevant to the role.
  • Practical experience in policy and/or legislation development.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
