Job Overview

The Engineering Manager role at Canonical involves leading a team of engineers and developing their skills. This requires a technically strong individual who can manage a distributed team, organize processes, and conduct one-on-one meetings.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of engineers and its MLOps/Analytics portfolio
  • Organize and lead the team's processes to achieve objectives
  • Conduct regular meetings with team members
  • Identify and measure team health indicators
  • Interact with a community of professionals
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Represent the company at conferences and events
  • Mentor and grow direct reports, helping them achieve their career goals

Requirements:

  • A proven track record of software delivery experience
  • Professional python development experience, preferably in open source
  • An understanding of machine learning challenges and opportunities
  • Experience designing and implementing MLOps solutions
  • An excellent academic record from high school and university

Preferred Skills:

  • Hands-on experience with machine learning libraries or tools
  • A proven track record of building automated machine learning solutions for the cloud
  • Experience with building machine learning models
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, LXD, Kubernetes)
  • Experience with public clouds (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Knowledge of Linux and open-source software
  • Passion for software quality and testing
  • Experience working on a distributed team on an open source project
