Job Title: Family Contact Worker

Description

This is a casual opportunity in out-of-home care, reporting to the Senior Contact Worker. The position provides supervised contact to children and young people with opportunities to maintain relationships with their family in a safe environment.

The role involves ensuring the emotional, social, behavioural, developmental and educational needs of children are met through trauma-informed care during contact visits. This includes reviewing documents, preparing activities and communicating with families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the needs of children are met through trauma-informed care;
  • Review documents and discuss issues with the Senior Contact Worker;
  • Prepare age-appropriate activities for contact visits;
  • Transport children to and from contact;
  • Communicate with children, parents and carers in a respectful way;
  • Role model pro-social behaviour by providing safety, stability and consistency;
  • Monitor contact between children and their family, recording observations;
  • Respond to issues arising during contact using crisis prevention techniques;
  • Ensure the wellbeing of children is actively safeguarded;
  • Complete detailed contact reports after each visit;
  • Remain informed of policy developments in out-of-home care;
  • Participate in learning and development opportunities;
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends;
  • Perform other duties as required.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Diploma in a child-related field;
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal culture and values;
  • Experience in supervised contact, out-of-home care or related field;
  • Understanding of child development and trauma indicators;
  • Ability to manage challenging behaviour and build relationships with vulnerable children;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and written communication skills;
  • Ability to interpret organisational policy;
  • Commitment to the purpose and values of the organisation;
  • Competence in Microsoft Office.
