These areas will enhance our existing strengths in musicology, ethnomusicology, popular music studies, and Indigenous studies.

In this capacity, you will engage and educate students through the delivery of undergraduate and honours courses, subject coordination, and mentorship of postgraduate scholars. You will have the chance to contribute to a comprehensive and stimulating curriculum that challenges both Bachelor of Music and general education students, while also nurturing a vibrant research atmosphere.

We seek an individual with a robust national presence and a developing international reputation, poised to make a significant contribution as a scholar and researcher in Ethnomusicology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct lectures, tutorials, seminars, and workshops in ethnomusicology and related areas within the Musicology and Ethnomusicology domain.
  • Oversee academic subjects and non-western performing ensembles as designated.
  • Develop and implement curriculum for core and elective music subjects, as well as general education courses.
  • Make substantial contributions to the discipline through the publication of peer-reviewed articles, academic books, and presentations at national and international conferences.
  • Recruit and supervise honours and postgraduate students in ethnomusicology, musicology, and/or popular music studies as appropriate.
  • Enhance the research capacity of the area through successful grant applications, conference organization, and collaborations on national and international levels.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills and exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, demonstrating a capacity to engage with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Qualifications

  • A PhD in ethnomusicology or a closely related field, utilizing ethnographic methodologies.
  • A proven track record of effective teaching at the tertiary level.
  • Experience in developing and delivering courses in ethnomusicology or related disciplines.
  • Ability to teach subjects covering various cultural traditions and topics such as music and gender, politics, and technology, complementing the strengths of current faculty.
  • A significant publication record in reputable journals and/or with leading academic publishers, appropriate to career stage.

This position requires the successful candidate to undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check.
