Culturally Sensitive Youth Mentor

Job Description:

The position of Culturally Sensitive Youth Mentor is available within our organization. This role involves working closely with First Nation young people, aged 10-17 years old, to provide culturally safe and responsive activities that focus on reducing at-risk behaviors and diverting further contact with the youth justice system.

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating, developing, and implementing activities that meet the needs of young people accessing the program, while maintaining service guidelines in accordance with Service Agreements. Activities may also be identified through community consultations and input from local services.

The role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact positively with a wide variety of stakeholders. The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to demonstrate cultural awareness and understanding.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A minimum two (2) years' experience in a similar related role;
  • A current Blue Card;
  • Ability to gain a suitable criminal history check;
  • Current C Class Driver's License (QLD);
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of business technology and desktop applications, including Microsoft Office Packages;
  • Possess well-developed communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable client groups, including an understanding of the holistic needs of the client, their family, and their community.
