About the Role

This is a senior and pivotal role within JL Exec, a dynamic and successful multi-national brokerage. As a Senior Legal Counsel, General Insurance, you will be responsible for providing legal advice to the management team and the board, ensuring the company's compliance with all processes, and aligning company policies across the entire group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal advice to the management team and the board on various matters, including general commercial third-party agreements and contract reviews.
  • Interpret legislation and ensure the company's compliance with all processes, including ensuring policies and procedures are kept current with legislative changes.
  • Align company policies across the entire group and new acquisitions, ensuring consistency and adherence to regulatory requirements.
  • Manage complaints processes across the organization, including breach management reporting for the board.
  • Review potential purchase-sale contracts and identify and escalate risks to senior management.
  • Review marketing content for legal compliance and manage the company's relationships with regulators.
  • Continuously improve internal controls and ensure the company's regulatory requirements are met.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will require a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a similar role within the general insurance industry (insurer or broker), some working experience in a legal firm, and completed legal qualifications.

You will also require proven familiarity with regulatory requirements, including FOS process, AFSL, Code of Practice, Insurance Contracts Act, Corporations Act, ASIC, compliance procedures, and brokers' legal and regulatory requirements.

Key attributes required include exemplary interpersonal and communication skills, professional presentation, proven negotiation and problem-solving ability, well-organized, personal integrity, high level of accuracy, and initiative.
