Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Chief Legal Counsel to lead our Legal Branch and provide strategic legal advice to the Minister for Health and the Department of Health. As a key member of our executive team, you will be responsible for managing and developing a large and diverse business unit, providing expert advice, quality outcomes, succession planning, and collaborative service delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop the Legal Branch, including its resources and operations;
  • Provide high-level strategic, operational, policy, and legal advice to the Minister for Health and the Department of Health;
  • Manage and resolve complex issues related to Government and Administrative processes;
  • Ensure compliance with ethical, professional, and statutory obligations, including maintenance of professional development and competency requirements;
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve performance and service delivery of legal services across Queensland Health.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An outstanding track record as a strategic and future-focused leader, committed to managing and developing a large and diverse business unit;
  • Superior technical legal knowledge and ability to provide high-level strategic, operational, policy, and legal advice;
  • Exceptional and influential communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative and effective relationships with diverse stakeholders;
  • Ability to think innovatively and creatively, challenging and improving existing policies, procedures, and approaches;
  • Exceptional analytical and conceptual abilities, used to address complex issues and establish comprehensive plans, implementation, and improvement strategies.

Estimated Salary Range: $180,000 - $220,000 per annum, depending on experience and qualifications. We offer a competitive remuneration package, including salary, superannuation, and annual leave. Location: Brisbane CBD. We offer flexible working arrangements, including remote work options, to support work-life balance.
