SUMMARY

The Shipper is responsible for verifying, inspecting, and maintaining records of incoming and outgoing shipments. This role involves performing inspections of products as they arrive and depart, ensuring accuracy in packing lists, Bills of Lading (BOL), and computer-generated shipping documents, utilizing platforms such as Federal Express, UPS, XPO, and electronic freight broker websites.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Receiving Responsibilities:

  1. Verifying, inspecting, and counting delivered items
  2. Unloading, sorting, and storing items in designated areas
  3. Processing receiving and returns computer transactions
  4. Tagging and labeling items according to departmental procedures
  5. Maintaining a clear dock area and outside unloading zone to accommodate new incoming materials
  6. Executing housekeeping tasks, including mopping, sweeping, and emptying trash weekly to keep shipping and inspection areas clean
  7. Breaking down cardboard boxes for recycling
  8. Following written and verbal instructions to perform tasks accurately
  9. Working safely and keeping the work area, tools, and equipment organized
  10. Performing other shop duties as needed
  11. Operating pallet jacks and hand trucks to move shipments from receiving and shipping to storage or work areas

Shipping Responsibilities:

  1. Constructing wood crates for shipping equipment securely to job sites (up to 50% of the role involves crating)
  2. Boxing equipment in standard boxes and/or securing to pallets
  3. Determining optimal methods for supporting and shipping products
  4. Managing the shipping of finished products and materials
  5. Examining outgoing products to ensure compliance with specifications on packing lists
  6. Training on oxygen cleaning requirements for equipment
  7. Verifying packing lists to confirm all items are correct and in good condition
  8. Maintaining an inventory of shipping materials and supplies
  9. Utilizing UPS and Federal Express World Ship computerized management systems for daily shipments
  10. Handling Bills of Lading (BOL) paperwork in job functions
  11. Coordinating dedicated loads with shipping companies
  12. Operating sit-down propane forklifts for shipping and receiving of crates and materials
  13. Loading and unloading crates, pipes, and materials from trailers
  14. Understanding shipping terms such as prepaid, third party, and collect
  15. Affixing shipping labels on packed cartons or stenciling shipping information on cartons

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma, GED, or technical school; at least two years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Must be able to:

  1. Safely utilize power tools and hand tools; saw, staple gun, screw gun, drill
  2. Read a tape measure accurately
  3. Drive a forklift (certification required)
  4. Count accurately for inventory purposes
  5. Follow directions and work independently
