Virtual Health Clinician Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse to join our team of dedicated Virtual Health Clinicians.

As a Virtual Health Clinician, you will play a vital role in supporting Australians with their health concerns through the Healthdirect Helpline. You will provide guidance to callers who are unsure if they should see a doctor or manage their condition at home.

The Healthdirect Helpline is open 24/7, offering health-related advice over the phone. Your expertise can make a significant impact on the health and well-being of our community.

Job Description
  • Provide health information and assess symptoms
  • Recommend the appropriate time and place of care
  • Refer callers to other services such as the GP Helpline, Urgent Care Clinics, and Virtual Emergency Departments
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse for a minimum of 3 years
  • At least 3 years of full-time (or equivalent) clinical experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse
  • A varied nursing background involving substantial public contact
  • Confidence in applying critical thinking and clinical judgment in high-pressure situations across all age groups and clinical presentations
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • A high affinity with using computer systems, including telehealth platforms, databases, and digital communication tools
Benefits
  • Part-time or full-time: Minimum 20 hours per week
  • Flexible shifts: Shift length ranging from 2 to 10 hours
  • Operational hours: between 5 PM – 5 AM, Monday to Saturday

This is a fixed-term contract until 30th June 2026.

You will be interacting with external services and serving vulnerable population groups with high rates of mental health issues, limited English proficiency, elderly and poor health literacy.
