Poultry technicians are responsible for the care and well-being of poultry flocks in a production setting.

Key responsibilities include providing technical knowledge to ensure optimal bird health, selecting and purchasing high-quality stock, and managing feeds and water supplies to meet the needs of the flock. Poultry technicians also play a crucial role in maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the facilities, as well as advising on vaccination programs to prevent disease outbreaks.

Additionally, poultry technicians are responsible for inspecting and disposing of or segregating infected birds, collecting and packing eggs, and maintaining accurate records of growth, feed, and production. A strong understanding of animal husbandry, welfare, and legislation is essential for this role, as well as proficiency in computer software and technology.

The ideal candidate will have a diploma in agriculture or higher equivalent and at least 3 years of recent relevant work experience. Strong communication and time management skills are also essential, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Full-time positions with rotating rosters may require weekend and shift work.
