We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Indigenous Research Officer to support the delivery of a national Indigenous science project across Australia's biodiversity and digital infrastructure platforms.

The Role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is committed to embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledges, voices, and leadership into national research infrastructure and environmental science.

  • As a key member of our team, you will provide high-level coordination, administrative, and project support for a national Indigenous Science initiative within CSIRO's biodiversity and digital infrastructure platforms.

You will work closely with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reference group and CSIRO advisory group to ensure the successful delivery of the project. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating project activities and providing administrative support across all stages of the Indigenous Science initiative.
  • Supporting the operation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander reference and advisory groups.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and organisations to support co-designed and Indigenous-led research.
  • Contributing to the development of culturally appropriate data practices by supporting awareness of Indigenous Data Sovereignty and assisting with the review of data governance frameworks.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the organisation's commitment to reconciliation and closing the gap in Indigenous disadvantage.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will require strong coordination and communication skills, as well as a passion for Indigenous-led research and knowledge systems. You will also need to demonstrate your ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and researchers.

Experience working in a similar role or industry would be highly regarded, but not essential. What is essential is your commitment to delivering high-quality results and your willingness to learn and grow with our team.
