
Disability Advocacy Specialist

The role of a Disability Justice Advocate is crucial in ensuring that individuals with disabilities receive the necessary support within the criminal justice system. Their primary responsibility involves assessing and coordinating forensic disability services based on clients' needs, risks, and goals.
Key to this role is advocating for additional support through universal service systems, guaranteeing clients receive the required assistance. This includes educating them on the court process, bail conditions, parole, and orders, as well as coordinating interventions to minimize reoffending risks and improve overall quality of life.
Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating support and services for clients according to team leader allocation, focusing on reducing reoffending likelihood.
- Operating within legislative and departmental standards, exercising appropriate authorities and legal delegations as needed.
- Representing the department at various court hearings, including Magistrates', Children's, County, and Supreme Courts, as well as the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Suitable applicants will possess strong report writing, assessment, and planning skills, along with experience working with clients having complex and multiple support needs. A willingness to adapt to changing circumstances is essential.
