Ecological Leadership Role

We are seeking a senior ecologist to provide overarching guidance and program implementation of our state-wide ecological monitoring program. This is a key leadership role that will drive strategic direction and standards for the organisation.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience in surveying and assessing vegetation, flora, and fauna, consistent with accreditation as an assessor using the biodiversity assessment methodology. They will also have expertise in project management, analysis, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.

This role will provide a unique opportunity to work closely with our team to lead a series of strategic projects that underpin the scientific rigour and integrity of the work delivered by the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Project managing our research agenda
  • Providing leadership and advice related to pest and weed management within the private land conservation network
  • Coordinating our Ecological Monitoring Module (EMM) in partnership with regional delivery teams
  • Analysing EMM data and supporting the publication of reports exploring biodiversity outcomes
  • Delivering our Research Strategy 2025-2029

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate strong leadership skills, excellent communication and collaboration abilities, and a deep understanding of ecological principles and practices.

Knowledge and Experience

- Extensive experience in surveying and assessing vegetation, flora, and fauna, consistent with accreditation as an assessor using the biodiversity assessment methodology

- Expertise in project management, analysis, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders

- Strong leadership skills and ability to communicate complex ideas effectively

Essential Requirements

- A degree in a relevant ecological or environmental science discipline

- A valid driver's licence and willingness to travel
