Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Deaf Connect Full time

About Deaf Connect

We are a leading NFP organisation dedicated to supporting the Deaf community. Our Early Literacy program is a key initiative that aims to promote Deaf language and culture among young children.

As an Auslan Storytime Presenter, you will play a vital role in delivering engaging presentations that captivate young audiences. You will lead story sessions at libraries, working closely with librarians and interpreters to create an inclusive experience for all children.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver fun and interactive Auslan story sessions for children, using the Play School-style method.
  • Select and translate books that are highly visual and can be easily translated into Auslan, ensuring they do not heavily rely on English forms such as rhyming.
  • Choose words from the books that match the theme and are suitable for teaching Auslan signs to young learners.
  • Create a friendly and inviting environment for question-and-answer sessions to encourage children to actively participate.

About You

We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual who is fluent in Auslan and written English. You will have a strong background in working with children and a passion for promoting early literacy. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential for this role.
