Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled High Performance Computing Systems Support Engineer to join our team at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing technical support and leadership in the creation and delivery of technology solutions designed to meet customers' business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement technical solutions to clients in accordance with agreed technical designs.
  • Provide detailed technical designs for enterprise solutions.
  • Develop and maintain strong system administration skills in Linux or similar operating systems.
  • Understand a broad spectrum of company technology to provide detailed technical designs that meet customer requirements.
  • Lead small to medium technical projects.
  • Work with and under the direction of the Project/Technical Manager and with customer nominated representatives.
  • Liaise with Solutions Architect as appropriate.
  • Provide technical support and input on the application of technology to a defined business segment.
  • Provide advice on solution and integration opportunities to defined segments.
  • Provide technical leadership on specific integration activities that are part of an engagement.
  • Provide planning and design support for the development of solution architectures that will be implemented in a multiple system environment.
  • Communicate across client community, and is viewed as adding value.
  • Demonstrate execution of the company strategy.
  • Contribute to knowledge tools and communities, and ensures project learnings are documented and shared.
  • Role models Knowledge sharing and re-use within practice or profession.
  • Proactively encourages membership and contributions of others to professional community. Uses professions to meet the relevant certification and professional standards.
  • Produces internally published material such as knowledge briefs, service delivery kit components or modules, etc.
  • Participates in the selling process in C&I and works with sales/principals on pre-sales activities.

About You:

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Has sufficient depth and breadth of technical knowledge to be individually responsible for the design and scope of deliverables within a field of expertise.
  • NV1 Clearance.
  • Has led small team in delivery of a specific deliverable.
  • Has mastered at least one technical discipline with strong knowledge in at least three major technology areas.
  • Possesses advanced level of business, technical, or functional knowledge.
  • Has ability to perform/drive resolution of problems on combinations and interactions of products.
  • Ability to apply technology and consulting to solve a client business problem.
  • Able to communicate and present complex issues with assurance and confidence. Demonstrates the use of consulting skills including: questioning, listening, ideas development, permission and rapport, and influencing.
  • Ability to conduct/lead oral status/technical interchange meetings with clients on small to medium sized engagements.
  • Owns and produces customer documentation. Ability to translate technical details into concise and easy to understand written form. Ability to write relevant components of a proposal document (e.g. answer specific RFP questions). Ability to translate verbal requirements from face to face client meetings into requirements documents, statements of work, and proposals.
  • Able to discuss (within own area of expertise) requirements with a customer, and to challenge and clarify when appropriate. From the requirements, able to develop a high level design or plan, and then estimate the amount of effort required to deliver. Able to advise the engagement owner about the risks associated with this work package.
  • Ability to work with a team to provide written responses to technical proposals and/or reports/documentation for delivery.
  • This Systems Support Engineer position providing systems support (hardware and software) as part of a team.

Experience/Knowledge:

Ideally, the candidate will have bachelor's degree in computer science or 7+ years of HPC experience with large-scale parallel systems will be highly regarded.

To be successful candidates must demonstrate the following:

  • Provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation, servicing and repair of complex equipment and systems.
  • Checks out and approves operational quality of system equipment.
  • Instructs customer in the operation and maintenance of the system.
  • Serves as company liaison with customer on administrative and technical matters for assigned projects.
  • Participates in customer status and planning meetings.
  • Responsible for maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.

Required: Specific Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge and experience of maintaining system hardware, utilizing diagnostic tools, and problem isolation in a large-scale computing environment. Performs hardware repairs (swapping boards, etc.).
  • Programming and scripting knowledge and experience (e.g. Perl, Python, C++, etc.).
  • Ability to gather data and perform analysis and escalate to a higher level of support.
  • Well organized, with an analytical approach to problem-solving and commitment to driving problems through to their conclusion.
  • Committed to investigating and resolving complex problems as part of a team.
  • Organizational skills that support taking an analytical approach to problems and driving solutions to problems through to their conclusion.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to stay calm and professional under pressure while working to strict deadlines.
