About the Role

Penten Pty Ltd is seeking a highly skilled Linux Systems Engineer to join our Operations Team. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our client systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with our Principal Architect to develop solutions for next-generation systems and improve existing client systems.
  • Provide expert support for the maintenance of assigned systems, including software updates, patches, and troubleshooting.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks on assigned Linux systems, including optimization, backups, and system monitoring.
  • Work with the team to identify and address security vulnerabilities and implement best practices for system security.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for reference and training purposes.
Requirements
  • Strong technical proficiency in Linux system administration, security principles, and analysis techniques.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical people.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team, managing multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Adaptability and willingness to learn new technologies and methodologies and use them to identify and mitigate security risks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Linux system administration and security
  • Virtualisation technologies such as KVM, Docker, VMware Hypervisor
  • Automation tools such as Ansible
  • SEIM/Log Analysis tools such as Splunk
  • Scripting with Bash and/or Python
  • Troubleshooting using tcpdump/Wireshark for diagnosing network/application issues
  • Windows systems and VoIP (desirable)
Eligibility Criteria
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology or related field (desirable)
  • Be an Australian citizen with an AGSVA NV2 clearance or higher (or eligible and willing to undergo the process).
