Train Driver Assistant Role

This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safe and efficient operation of trains.

About The Position

The primary objective of this role is to provide operational support to the train driver, ensuring compliance with all relevant rules and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply safe working procedures and protocols to assist with rail operations
  • Identify and respond to signals and signs in accordance with established guidelines
  • Process and maintain accurate workplace documentation
  • Implement emergency procedures in response to accidents or incidents
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety standards and protocols
  • Shift materials safely using manual handling techniques
  • Apply fatigue management strategies to maintain optimal performance
  • Shunt rolling stock as required
  • Participate in basic workplace communications and training sessions
  • Secure cargo and conduct regular train inspections
  • Assist in meeting the requirements of train operations in a timely, safe, and efficient manner
  • Participate in training, briefing sessions, and toolbox talks associated with safe and efficient train operations
  • Meet hazard and near-miss reporting requirements
  • Comply with procedures, work instructions, operating protocols, and rules to facilitate safe and efficient train operations

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will ideally possess the following skills and qualifications:

  • Availability to work across a 24/7 shift work roster
  • Technical or trade background (preferable but not essential)
  • Recent drivers' licence history required
  • Ability to work collaboratively and harmoniously as part of a team
  • Capacity to work autonomously using proactive approaches to task resolution
  • Flexibility and adaptability to work in a demanding environment
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good level of fitness and general health
