Position: Estimator
Location: Redfern Office

Why This Role is So Engaging:

The Estimator is tasked with overseeing the estimation processes for new tenders and ongoing projects, which involves developing rates, schedules, quantities, and pricing across various project types related to Water and Wastewater assets. This role collaborates closely with the Construction and Delivery Team to formulate estimates for a variety of treatment and network infrastructure assets, including pump stations, mechanical and electrical upgrades at treatment plants, and chemical dosing or odour control systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with internal Design, Construction, Safety, Proposals, and management teams to ensure precise and timely estimation of works.
  2. Establish project cost estimation standards, procedures, and tools that align with D4C's objectives.
  3. Maintain a benchmarking framework/database for projects, providing trend analysis and insights to enhance cost methodologies.
  4. Conduct benchmarking for cost comparisons, utilizing first principles, historical projects, and various other sources.
  5. Keep supplier and pricing schedule databases updated with current pricing.
  6. Assist in preparing cost plans, tenders, and budget estimates as necessary.
  7. Deliver high-quality analytical support for the development of project cost plans, budget estimates, tenders, and business cases in a timely manner.
  8. Ensure the application of appropriate resources to construct the estimation.
  9. Comprehend the scope, material take-off, technical specifications, and plant processes.
  10. Consistently work safely and in accordance with D4C and Sydney Water HSEQ requirements, supporting the mission of Delivering Differently.
  11. Understand the significance and application of Cost Breakdown and Work Breakdown structures.
  12. Exhibit strong attention to detail and time management skills to prioritize and meet deliverable deadlines.
  13. Provide analytical support for regular reviews and validation of Cost Planning and estimates, highlighting potential issues to the Lead Estimator.
  14. Assist with bid reviews to confirm the accuracy of cost estimation and identify areas for enhancement.
  15. Engage with the construction team to gather site feedback for future project estimations.
  16. Collaborate with clients to align on methodologies and work breakdowns.
  17. Conduct site visits as necessary to gain a better understanding of scope and access challenges.
  18. Exercise sound judgment in managing confidential and sensitive information that could impact D4C's performance and reputation.
Qualifications/Experience:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics preferred).
  2. Current Driver's License - Desirable.
  3. Experience in Quantity Surveying/Estimation.
  4. Background in major infrastructure projects.
  5. Exposure to or additional qualifications in Project/Construction management is advantageous.
