Electoral Leadership Role

The Australian Electoral Commission is responsible for maintaining an impartial and independent electoral system. This role supports the delivery of electoral events through active electoral roll management, efficient polling services, and targeted public awareness programs.

The Team

Join a team of 151 leaders and assistants across the country working together to support electoral events under provisions of the Electoral Integrity Framework. You will work closely with various stakeholders in a dispersed network.

Key Responsibilities

As a leader, you will assist in maintaining the electoral roll for your division, allowing electors to exercise their franchise at federal, territory, and local government elections. Once the agency moves to the mobilisation phase, staff in critical roles are responsible for delivering elections or referendums for their divisions.

You will contribute to developing team objectives, set priorities for your work area, maintain team cohesion, and ensure quality outputs from the work area. A key component is managing multiple priorities simultaneously.

During election delivery, you will be responsible for supervising temporary election staff using your leadership skills to support expanding workforce requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

- Experience in administering major logistical events with a demonstrated focus on achieving objectives
- Ability to remain positive and respond calmly under pressure while committing energy and drive to meet objectives.
- Strong leadership and management focus with strong delegation skills.
- Confidence and ability to effectively communicate, collaborate and negotiate with team members, business areas, and external stakeholders.
- A strong commitment to working effectively within a team to achieve positive results in support of the electoral process.

Eligibility Criteria

- Must be an Australian citizen.
- Cannot be actively involved in political affairs or intend to publicly carry out this activity as it may compromise the neutrality of the electoral body.
- Applicants must consent to undergo and maintain a character clearance and security clearance required for this role.
- May be required to undertake psychometric testing as part of this recruitment process.
