**Aboriginal Family Support Worker**

**Illawarra/Shoalhaven and Southern NSW**

**Employment type - Casual**

**Salary - Competitive hourly rate plus casual loading & superannuation**

We are seeking a dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander person who is committed to supporting children and families within their community. As an Aboriginal Family Time Worker, you will supervise and support family time visits between children and young people in out-of-home care and their families.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team and contribute to building a dedicated workforce for supervising family time. Your role includes:

  • Supervising family time visits, ensuring the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Communicating with children, young people, families and carers in a culturally sensitive manner to facilitate positive interactions during family time and transport.
  • Transporting children, young people, and occasionally parents or carers to various locations, including family time visits.
  • Recording observations and preparing documentation following supervised visits, ensuring accuracy and adherence to DCJ guidelines.
  • Supporting administrative tasks to contribute to the efficient operation of the team and service delivery.

**Key Responsibilities**

As an Aboriginal Family Time Worker, you will have the following key responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with children, young people, families and carers in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children during family time visits, providing support as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, including children, young people, families and carers.
  • Manage and maintain accurate records of family time visits and other related activities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of programs and services that support Aboriginal children and families.

  • Has effective communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with children, young people and families.
  • Is able to work in a culturally sensitive manner, respecting the diversity of Aboriginal cultures and traditions.
  • Has strong organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Is able to work independently and as part of a team, contributing to the achievement of team goals and objectives.
  • Has a high level of resilience and adaptability, being able to manage stress-related behaviour and navigate complex family dynamics.

**Essential Requirements**

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Be of Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Have a current NSW driver's licence.
  • Hold a Working with Children Check clearance.
  • Hold a First Aid certificate (or be willing to obtain one prior to commencement).
  • Be available to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
